Thanks to goals from Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty in the second half, Wolverhampton Wanderers extended their amazing home record to humiliate Chelsea on Christmas eve with a 2-1 victory in the Premier League on Sunday.
Lemina headed in a Pablo Sarabia corner six minutes after the break to give Wolves the lead after the first half ended goalless. Doherty then added a second goal in extra time to seal the victory, while Christopher Nkunku scored Chelsea's first goal.
With 22 points, Wolves, who haven't lost at home in the league since September, climbed to 11th place, level with Chelsea in 10th place but behind the London team on goal differential.
After losing their last four away games, Chelsea's eighth league loss of the year came against Mauricio Pochettino's team.
"We feel incredibly let down because we are worthy of so much more. We need sufficient clinical expertise. We had possession and generated opportunities, according to Pochettino.
Many of the players are playing in the Premier League for the first time, and the team is young. They must adjust. These games have lessons for us to learn. Chelsea should not be in this situation that we are."
Raheem Sterling gave Chelsea their finest chance of the first half when he ran into the Wolves area and snatched the ball from Joao Gomes, leaving just the custodian, Jose Sa, to stop him.
In spite of having two teammates, including Cole Palmer, unmarked to his right, Sterling went for the finish alone. Sa blocked the shot, ending the three-on-one opportunity.
Six minutes after halftime, Lemina's header from Pablo Sarabia's corner found its way into the net, making Chelsea pay for their carelessness.
"This place is incredible; the support system is great. "I hope we can continue to push forward and satisfy the fans," Lemina stated to Sky Sports.
After Benoit Badiashile mishandled Hugo Bueno's cross, Wolves increased their lead when Matt Doherty, who was unmarked, beat Chelsea custodian Djordje Petrovic with a shot.
They stole a goal towards the end, so (the second goal) was crucial. Throughout my career, I've usually had a knack for being in the right place at the right time, so I put it away," Doherty remarked.
"The type of environment created in and around the stadium. We have a strong record versus the top six clubs. Most of them have lost to us both here and afar. We're succeeding nicely."
Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku scored a consolation goal, his first since joining the London team in the off-season, but they were unable to equalise.
