NBA: LeBron James edges out Steph Curry as LA Lakers win thriller over Golden State Warriors

LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a stunning 145-144 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors, earning bragging rights over Steph Curry.

James, the NBA's oldest player at 39, finished with 36 points, 20 rebounds, and 12 assists.

James sealed the victory by making two free throws with just a second left on the clock.

Curry had a game-high 46 points and seven assists despite losing.

Four-time MVP James admitted his matchup with Curry was one he will remember fondly when his career was over.

"Steph came to me after the game and said 'how does it keep getting better?'" James stated.

"When you're finished playing, you'll genuinely appreciate everything about it.

"When you are able to watch with your grandkids and say that I played against one of the best ever to play this game."

With 5.2 seconds remaining, Curry hit a stunning 28-foot three-pointer to give the Warriors a one-point lead.

Klay Thompson's 25-foot three-pointer with seven seconds remaining sent the game into overtime, and James had the ultimate say.

MVP Embiid sits out as Nuggets defeat 76ers:

The Denver Nuggets, the NBA's defending champions, defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 111-105 despite missing star centre Joel Embiid.

Embiid became one of only ten NBA players to score 70 or more points in a single game when the 76ers defeated the San Antonio Spurs 133-123 last week.

Reigning MVP Embiid went through his pre-match warm-up but was pulled by the team's medical staff due to knee soreness.

It was Embiid's 11th game missed this season, and he can only afford to miss six more to be eligible for league accolades, including MVP.

Nikola Jokic, a two-time MVP winner, led the Nuggets with 26 points and 16 rebounds, while Jamal Murray had 23.
