The 2024 special of 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve' draws 22.2 million total viewers, a 30% increase over the previous year

 ABC began the new year with a No. 1 as their annual New Year's Eve extravaganza topped the broadcast competition.

The first half of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024," which aired between 8 and 10 p.m., had 7 million total viewers and a 1.81 rating in the adults 18-49 bracket. This represents a 35% increase in overall viewers over the previous year's programme, which drew 5.2 million people, and a 33% increase in Adults 18-49 (last year's show received a 1.36 rating). As a result, the Sunday night programme received its best rating since 2020.

Part 2 of the presentation received a 2.93 rating among Adults 18-49, making it the highest-rated entertainment telecast on any network in primetime in the demo since ABC's March broadcast of "The Oscars." Part 2 of the "New Year's Rockin' Eve" special drew 10.4 million total viewers between 10:30 and 11:30 p.m., making it the night's most-watched entertainment programme in primetime.

The late-night programme, which aired from 11:30 p.m. to 12:37 a.m., had 18 million total viewers and a 5.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic. As viewers tuned in to watch the ball drop, the programme peaked around midnight, drawing 22.2 million total viewers and a 6.41 Adult 18-49 rating. The late-night show increased by 30% in total viewers (13.8 million) and by 30% in Adults 18-49 (5.33 rating vs. 4.11 rating).

The second late night telecast, which aired at 1:09 a.m., drew 5.1 million total viewers and a 1.47 rating among Adults 18-49, representing a 19% increase in total viewers (5.1 million vs. 4.3 million) and a 14% increase in Adults 18-49 (1.47 rating vs. 1.29 rating).

According to Fast National Ratings, CBS' broadcast of "Nashville's Big Bash" drew 7.85 million total viewers – a 75% increase over previous year — spanning the whole night. The telecast averaged 8.21 million total viewers during the 7:30-10 p.m. primetime block, beginning with 11.93 million total viewers in the 7:30 p.m. quarter hour as CBS finished airing the Cincinnati Bengals game against the Kansas City Chiefs just before the broadcast began. During the 8:00-10:00 p.m. primetime block last year, the show attracted 3.86 million Live+Same Day total viewers.

The CBS broadcast from 10:30-11:30 p.m. was up 51% from the previous year, attracting 6.93 million total viewers. CBS's 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. coverage averaged 8.12 million viewers, a 51% increase over CBS's 2023 average, which includes out-of-home viewership. The show peaked with 8.58 million viewers during the 11:45 p.m. quarter hour. The 12:30-1:30 a.m. hou-block had 7.40 million viewers, a 56% increase over the same hour last year.

The New Year's Eve special was also streamed live on CBS' streaming platforms, where it became the most-watched live streamed programme of the day.
