Detroit Pistons star Isaiah Stewart was arrested after reportedly hitting his Phoenix Suns opponent in a pregame fight

Detroit Pistons star Isaiah Stewart was arrested Wednesday after reportedly striking Phoenix Suns opponent Drew Eubanks during a pregame skirmish, according to authorities.

The altercation started out in the parking lot of Footprint Centre in Phoenix approximately 4:45 p.m. local time, according to a Phoenix Police Department announcement.

When authorities got on the scene, security pointed them to Eubanks, 27, and Stewart, 22.

Officers spoke with both players and several witnesses.

"When they arrived at the arena, they discovered there had been a disagreement between the two players. Witnesses reported that the disagreement escalated when they observed Stewart punch Eubanks, causing minor harm, according to police.

The fight ended when the two players were separated by security.

Detectives investigated the incident, and Stewart was detained for assault, cited, and released.

The investigation is underway.

"The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and such acts of violence are unacceptable," the Suns said in a statement. "We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA."

The Pistons confirmed in a statement Wednesday that they were "aware" of the situation involving the two players. "We are in the process of gathering information about what happened and what provoked it, and responding to the NBA and local authorities," the team stated in a statement.

Eubanks played in the Suns' 116-100 victory over the Pistons on Wednesday night. Stewart was previously ruled out due to an ankle ailment.

Stewart has gotten into fights before. In 2021, he got into a confrontation on the floor with LeBron James of the Lakers, and Stewart was suspended for two games and James for one.
