Elon Musk, the former owner of Twitter (X), has denied accusations that former US President Donald Trump asked for campaign donations when the two met in Florida earlier this month, according to Business Insider.
In an interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon, which was released on Monday, the tech billionaire stated that their encounter was a coincidence rather than pre-planned.
"I was having breakfast with a friend when Donald Trump stopped by. "That's it," Musk stated.
Lemon then inquired with the Tesla owner about what the two said during their "chance" encounter.
At that point, he responded: "Let's just say he did most of the talking [...] I don't recall him saying anything that he hasn't said publicly."
"I will not pay his legal fees. He did not ask me for money."
According to the New York Times, several wealthy Republican donors attended the fundraiser where Trump and Musk met.
After it was revealed that they had met, Musk made it clear that he would not be supporting any candidate financially.
During the interview, he stated unequivocally that he would not donate to anyone, but would endorse a candidate before to the November 5 presidential election.
"While I'll voice my opinion, I don't want to put a thumb on the scale monetarily," he told reporters.
