The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the Year of the Wood Dragon. This event, celebrated by various civilizations, represents the regeneration of hopes and dreams, as well as the beginning of a new lunar cycle. The Lunar New Year is a time to celebrate the arrival of Spring and the beginning of the new year. It is a time when families and communities get together to celebrate their customs and heritage, establishing a sense of belonging and cultural richness.
Last year, Governor Kathy Hochul signed historic legislation making Lunar New Year an official school holiday in New York, demonstrating her devotion to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population. We urge everyone to celebrate the Lunar New Year with our colleagues and partners who are of Chinese, Tibetan, Korean, Singaporean, Thai, Malaysian, or Vietnamese background.
Best wishes for a great Lunar New Year to the entire OPWDD community. As we all look forward to the possibility of a new beginning, I wish you prosperity, good fortune, and a new year filled with togetherness and warmth as you celebrate with friends and family.
