Sunderland make 'difficult decision' to sack Tony Mowbray

After 15 months at the Stadium of Light, Tony Mowbray was let go by Sunderland; the 60-year-old departs with the Black Cats in ninth place in the Sky Bet Championship. Mowbray led Sunderland into the playoffs the previous year, when they were defeated by promoted Luton.

In August, Mowbray took over for Alex Neil as manager, and he led the Black Cats to the playoffs in his debut season.

This season hasn't started off well either, despite some encouraging moments, most notably the 5-0 victory over Southampton.

But recently, the club has struggled—winning just two of their last nine games and seemingly losing the ability to score goals.

But there were still those hints that the team had put out to possible successors. You can request as much prudence and exercise as much caution as you like, but all it takes for a problem to arise is for one agent to see an opening to publicise their client's name.
