Los Angeles is struck by a 4.2 magnitude earthquake

 LOS ANGELES — According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck northeast of Los Angeles near the hamlet of Lytle Creek on Friday.

The quake struck just before 11 a.m. local time, with the epicentre located at a depth of almost 5.5 miles in the Cajon Pass near San Bernardino.

According to preliminary reports on the USGS Community Internet Intensity Map, the tremor was felt as far south as San Diego, roughly 100 miles from the epicentre.


According to the USGS, there is a 1-in-20 chance of a larger earthquake occurring in the next days.
