Real Madrid 4–2 Athletico Madrid - Athletico Madrid claims extra time. WIN TO BOOK THE FINAL SPOT FOR COPA DEL REY QUARTER

Alletico Madrid defeated rivals Real in a thrilling Copa del Rey last-16 match at the Wanda Metropolitano. Samuel Lino opened the scoring before Jan Oblak's own goal levelled the game. Alvaro Morata thought he had found a winner, but Joselu's equaliser sent the game into extra time. However, goals by Antoine Griezmann and Rodrigo Riquelme saw the home side through.

Atletico Madrid defeated rivals Real Madrid 4-2 to advance to the Copa del Rey quarterfinal.

Atleti advanced to the final eight as Antoine Griezmann and Rodrigo Riquelme scored twice in extra time, ending Real's 21-match unbeaten streak.

After 12 minutes, Los Blancos got their first genuine opportunity when Jude Bellingham made his way into the penalty area, slipped the ball through Axel Witsel's knees, and unleashed a tremendous drive that blasted the crossbar.

Just eight minutes later, Real was stopped again, this time by Jan Oblak's outstanding goalkeeping. The Slovenian moved quickly to his right to block a deflection that cannoned into his path before sprinting over to his near post to deny Rodrygo on the follow-up.

Atletico Madrid struck first, six minutes after the break, when Antonio Rudiger rose highest to head away Rodrigo De Paul's cross, but could only direct it into the path of Samuel Lino at the back post, who reacted quickly to fire past Andriy Lunin.

Real Madrid did not have to wait long for an equaliser, scoring just five minutes later. Oblak made a mess of going for Luka Modric's free kick, as the ball went over his head and into the back of the net.

Atletico Madrid seized the lead just before the hour mark courtesy to a defensive mix-up, their second of the match. This time, there was a mix-up between custodian Lunin and Rudiger, and Alvaro Morata took advantage, stroking the ball into an empty net.

Real Madrid came within inches of equalising 15 minutes later when Rodrygo's powerful shot bounced off an Atletico Madrid body and into the crossbar.

With only eight minutes of normal time remaining, Los Blancos equalised when Bellingham delivered a wonderful cross to the back post, and substitute Joselu, who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes, headed home, sending the match into extra time.

Griezmann scored a superb solo goal to put Atletico ahead 3-2 after 100 minutes. Atletico Madrid's all-time leading striker sprinted down the right side, evading Vinicius Junior on the byline before hitting a rocket past Lunin and into the top corner from a tough angle.

Riquelme sealed the win with barely a minute remaining, thumping home calmly past Lunin after being slipped in by Memphis Depay. Diego Simeone, never one to disguise his emotions, was utterly overtaken and dashed onto the pitch to celebrate with his players.

It is only Real Madrid's second defeat of the season in all competitions, both coming at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
