LIVERPOOL, England (AP) Liverpool's starting front three of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez all scored in the Premier League leaders' 3-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday. Mohamed Salah is out injured.
The Reds replied to Manchester City's temporary return to the league's top spot, following a 2-0 victory over Everton hours earlier, with a victory that tested their grit even more than their stretched resources.
While the three points restored Liverpool's two-point lead, the less-than-convincing character of the victory over the league's next-to-last team did not quite match the occasion of the hosts' largest league crowd of 59,896 since the complete opening of the Anfield Road stand.
For a time, it appeared if Liverpool, who were missing custodian Alisson Becker and defender Joe Gomez due to illness, as well as the injured Salah, were still recovering from their setback at Arsenal the previous week.
